Leisure activities: several aspects / Simón Vázquez
GOOD AND BAD LEISURES ACTIVITIES.
A good way to “enjoy” free time, by many teenagers, with future suffering, is for example BOTELLON when every weekend’s nights millions of teenagers meet in public places to drink alcohol irritating the neighbours and acting like vandals. BOTELLON is very popular regardless the terrible consequences.
Another way how some teenagers spend their free time, fortunately only a few teens take this way, is the way of BULLING. These people enjoy hurting helpless people. For example these “people” choose a weak and alone boy, and they hit and attack him cowardly.
Fortunately all young people don’t take the wrong way. Many teens go out with their friends enjoying a sunny afternoon or they go to the cinema, or they play videogames in a cyber or they go to the library or they read comics. Although these last leisure activities are done by freaks, this is said by some people who sponsor the ignorance.

In Ourense, we have the advantages from a small city but also it sustains in a great way our necessities like a big city. For example, there is no beach, but there are TERMAS CHAVASQUEIRA, near the river, which are very popular in Galicia and Spain. Also we have many and great cultural offerings at AUDITORIO MUNICIPAL, at CASA DA XUVENTUDE or at TEATRO PRINCIPAL. There is one possibility which you can make a show with another people if you join to one of popular drama groups like I did it.
I’m in different drama groups which I spend my free time but I go out with my friends too. One of these groups is EL OBRADOIRO DE TEATRO DE LOLY BUJÁN. I have learnt so much from Loly, She is a great actress, director and also she is a great woman. She gave me the power and courage to create my own film group two years ago. This group has given me great moments of happiness but also very sad moments.

The group is called ATCC [Asociación de Transmisión de Conocimientos Cinematográficos]. It’s composed by young people like me who loves the film world or only wants to spend their free time in a funny way.
We make short films, as SUEÑOS REALES, or another that are being filmed these days, as TI TRANSPLANTAS, which promotes organ donation among young people. Also, we film video clips for groups like SIN MOTIVO or NO SENSE. We are collaborating now with COMENIUS PROJECT, and soon we are travelling to Portugal to expose our works. Last winter we made LA CASA DEL TERROR: EL PSIQUIÁTRICO NÚMERO 8 at CASA DA XUVENTUDE and it was so successful. All tickets were sold out and people came from all Galicia.
We have our own web site [http://www.producciones-atcc.jimdo.com/] where we show all about us and our projects.
Also I spend my free time reading books, surfing on internet, writing my own histories, and learning English while I see TV series subtitled, with voices in original version.
At last I’d like to suggest everybody that they can spend their free time in a productive way because FREE doesn’t mean that we can do all what we want, so we should respect others. I’d like nowadays teenagers to take a look around and ask themselves...

Young people and their leisure time / Andrea Caldas
Young people, when we have free time, want to have fun, but how can we have fun? Are these the same as in the past or we have got different ways of amusement? These are some of the topics we are going to speak.
Our parents and grandparents also had fun when they were young, although we don’t believe it. This is true and we can know if asking them.
If we ask them about what they used to do in their leisure time we can discover things like, for example, that they didn’t play computer or video games and watch TV either. It’s obvious because these ways to have fun weren’t invented until the beginning of twentieth century and just a few people had access to them at their homes.
Other thing which can impress us is that the majority didn’t use to go to the cinema or visit museums and art galleries. Visiting these places was so expensive for many families. Most normal activities were walking, going to the park, riding bikes with friends, playing football, reading books, writing or painting for example.
The young people who lived in the country used to have fun doing activities in the nature like going on a picnic, going fishing in the river, walking and spending time with family helping them with the country works.
Nowadays young people also do activities like these but less than in the past because in the last years new ways of amusement have come up. The best examples of this fact are electronic games, which have revolutionized the world of game. Don’t worry if you are alone, you can play with a computer; Besides, today exits internet and with it we can play, shop, make or meet friends . . . all these things only by surfing the internet. Neither can we forget mobile phones. Today it is strange that a teenager hasn’t got one.
Currently go into the cinema or museums isn’t so expensive as in the past, now everyone can go to the cinema at least once every three weeks.
The world of music has changed too. With the new technologies (mp3 for example) and internet we can listen and create music wherever and whenever we want.
Besides all these new ways to have fun we can also do the activities which our parents or grandparents used to do.
In conclusion, nowadays there are more activities for free time than in the past.
All these leisure activities, past and present ones, have in common it main function: have fun; although their ways were so different. The majority of the activities that our parents or grandparents would do were in company, with friends (playing football, going to the park, spending time with family...).Nowadays it is very common to have fun alone. You can surf the internet, create and listen music, play in computer games or watch TV... you can do all of these with or without friends.
Other difference is the price of this new way of amusement, it can be expensive. Electronic games can be an example of this. The last “Play Station” cost about 600eur and then besides you need the video games to play. Each one cost about 70eur.This is a really unnecessary expense which not all families can allow.
In my opinion the best way to have fun is doing all activities which I love doing always with my friends or family, never alone, so I prefer the leisure activities in the past. These are, the majority, cheap and when I practise them I have a lot of fun with friends. I love walking in the town with my friends, shopping, playing sports with them, hiking, dancing, skating in the park or going to the cinemas once a month on Fridays.
Of course I like relaxing while I am listening to music and walking alone in the nature, in the country.
To sum up leisure activities have changed since the past until now. Each person must decide what the most enjoyable leisure activity is to him or her to practise it and have fun a lot because amusement is necessary and not everybody enjoy doing the same, we are different.

Leisure activities of young people / Irina Fernández
For example, if you like sports, you can practise it on your own, such as swimming, walking, going to the gym…; or you can go painting; if you enjoy going out with your friends, maybe, you’d like to go to the shopping centre or to the cinema; and if you’re the kind of person who likes staying at home, you can take advantage to read a book, to surf the internet or to watch TV.
From my point of view, all of these activities are good because some of them help you to be fit and healthy, and others are better to develop your mind, so you’ll be never wasting your time. However, there’re other activities, such as get drunk or destroy the urban facilities, which, I believe young people (or other people) should never do.
In conclusion, young people can do a lot of things in our leisure time, but it would be better if we choose a positive one, because it will be good for us, and our future.by IRINA FERNÁNDEZ FERNÁNDEZ, 1º C BAC
What I do in my free time / Cristian Fernández
I enjoy cycling but in Galicia the weather is rainy and I cannot do it very often, only at weekends, when I go to my village. I sometimes go out with my friends; we play football and basket, we go to the cinema and we usually have dinner together, I like going to “the wines” street. We also go out to the pubs at night and we have fun there, but we do not drink alcohol.

Leisure activities nowadays / Pablo Mosquera
● First of all we have the teens who spend their whole time in front of the computer screen, playing playstation, or watching TV program after program until dinner. This is such an unhealthy life that it could even develop into an overweight disease. Nevertheless, people will have a very specific talent at something.
● There are a few (in percentage) who have musical talent, and feel like playing an instrument everyday. I find it boring, but I cannot deny they can take advantage of that.
● Another group of people (where I must be included), prefer to practice a sport seriously. If you take it seriously, it will be difficult to hang out usually with friends and to pass examinations at an ordinary school.
I, for instance, despite having good marks, would get even better ones if I had not chosen this way to spend my free time.
This is the healthiest type of leisure life, although it is difficult, both physically and mentally, to keep on doing it for a long time.
● Finally, still remains the last group. Most of the teens just have fun, going to the malls and taking part of the so called “Big Bottle” during the crazy nights. That is the best way to enjoy their free time, but there is a high risk of taking drugs and drinking much alcohol.
To sum up, we have proven there are several types of leisure activities, and it is also proven that people can have benefits out of them, or put themselves into risky situations because of them. I think we should not change, and everybody can choose the best option for him/her.

What do you think about the leisure activities of Young people nowadays? / Brais Llorente
At present I believe that the most common activities between the young people are: listening to music, watching television, surfing the Internet, playing with the play station, going shopping, alternating in bars, cafes or pubs, going to the cinema and practicing sports, although normally the preferences vary according to the sex of the young person.
Our families would prefer us to spend our free time in another type of activities, like reading, activities in the open-air, visits to museums and expositions, attendance to cultural acts, but the reality is not that, we prefer funnier activities.
If we spent a suitable time in activities that we like, we are doing it in the correct way, there is no problem, the problem arises when we make an excess. Then we can fall in very dangerous problems like the excessive alcohol consumption, drug consumption, violence in the streets, promiscuity, no wished pregnancies, consumption, television, computer, video games abuse, studies problems…
Regarding the activities that we preferred, I suppose that some could be considered more beneficial than others. It’s obvious is better than we practice some sports that we are meeting people in a bar, but each activity must have its moment. Also we can think that it is more advisable to share the moments of leisure with friends, but sometimes, we preferred enjoying in private, the important thing is always to enjoy ourselves.
It also happens that certain young people see themselves “forced” to realize any type of activities because in their surroundings there are no other possibilities or she does not have means to do them. Unfortunately, in many cases, the young people must themselves devote to meet people in a bar and to play cards, because it is the only thing that there are (countryside for example).
Enjoying our free time is something fundamental for any person, if the activities that we do contribute to make us happiness, we will be fulfilling the objective. It is clear that we will have to take those activities with respect and responsibility to the others persons. Throughout the decades they have changed the enjoying forms, but there is something which hasn’t changed, and it is to share our time with our friends and it continues being our favorite activity.

What do you do in your free time? / Iago Iglesias
Meeting friends is the most popular activity that we do in our free time. A lot of teenagers meet their friends at the weekend and they go for a walk, play a sport, go to a bar or a restaurant or simply they talk and laugh. We can share opinions with friends, tell jokes or even gossip. We must choose correctly our friends; some young people smoke, take drugs and drink alcohol in "botellones" and they can involve us in that world; so in my opinion it's very important to know how our friends are.
But not all the leisure activities were the same over the years. My grandparents, for example, used to go to the mountain to catch flowers and insects and then they sell them, they collected a lot of money. My mother said to me that when she was a little girl she rode her horse on Saturdays and she went across the mountain with it, she was a very good rider, she loves horses. I admit that these activities are not popular nowadays but I think that they sound funny; teenagers could prove them.
Playing computer games has become the most addictive activity over the world. Many teenagers don't spend their free time outdoors because of the computer, the playstation ... etc. This activity could be bad for our health and for our state of mind. It could hurt our eyes and we can become unsociable people if we spend our free time indoors and it could even affect in our marks.
In conclusion, teenagers spend their free time doing a lot of activities. The leisure activity that a teenager does depends on his/her way of thinking. We can do it for pleasure (or for interest) and it's a good way against boredom.

WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE DO NOWADAYS ON THEIR FREE TIME? / Javier López
Sport activities are the first option for most students. Joining to a football, basketball, hockey, handball or volleyball team are interesting ways of doing exercise and having a good time. Teenagers can also play tennis, go to the swimming pool, or work out at a gym. The good side of sport activities is that they help you to stay fit and healthy. Most sports are also funny, like team sports. You can practice sport alone or with your friends, and you can also meet new interesting people. The bad side of this kind of activities is the possibility of having an injury. If you aren’t careful, you can easily fall down and break an arm or a leg. And if this happens, you won’t be able to practice any sport or do any physical effort for a long time. Many young people do sport because they want to be like their idols. They want to play tennis as well as Nadal, or be as good at football as Messi, so they train a lot of hours. This is a good reason for practicing sport, too.Another good option to spend your free time is going to the park. There are lots of parks in all cities, and you can go alone, with your family or with your friends. In a park, you can read a book or have a nap. You can also kick a football around. And, if you want, you can take a picnic basket and a picnic rug and have a picnic. But remember: be careful with ants. This activity have one advantage: you can stay outdoors, surrounded by nature, but you don’t have to do physical efforts. You can just relax. The problem is that going to the park is only an option in a good, sunny day. You can’t have a picnic during a storm.
Teenagers that don’t want to be outdoors can stay at home. They can spend their free time
watching a good film or any TV programme. There are many types of films to see, like comedies, action films, horror films and thrillers, romantic and musical films, documentaries, Science fiction and fantastic films… And there are also hundreds of different TV programmes, like soap operas, talk shows, sport programs, documentaries, and more. When you are bored of TV programs and don’t want to rent a film, you can switch on your computer. Nowadays teenagers love to surf the Internet for hours, where they can talk with their friends using social networking sites, blogs or chat programs. They can also research images and videos, download music and know what is happening all around the world visiting news websites. And when there isn’t any interesting thing in the Internet, they can use the computer or a game console to play videogames. Watching TV can be very
funny, and there are lots of good films you can choose. When you are surfing the Internet, you can find really interesting news, videos or programs. Internet, like telephones, also helps you to be in contact with your friends, even if each of you live in a different city or country. And it’s proved that videogames help to train your brain and your intellectual abilities. But, like all things, abusing of TV and computers can be really harmful. If you usually spend a lot of hours in front of TV, you’ll probably have to do some extra physical exercise if you want to keep fit and with good health. Despite these problems, TV and computers are two of the best friends of bored students at their free time. Many young people prefer going out with their friends to stay at home all day. If they decide to go out, there are many things they can do. They can go for a walk, play any sport or go shopping. They can go out to a bar, or go out for a coffee, if they want to sit and talk. They can play billiards, bowling, chess, cards, too .They can have dinner at a restaurant, have a barbecue, go to the swimming pool, or any other activity that they all enjoy. Finally, at night they can go to a disco, to a party or to a concert. These are perfect options if you want to keep in contact with your friends, meet new people, or both things. Although you’ll prefer to stay at home if you are ill or if all your friends have gone for holidays and you are alone. Going out is what most young people do at weekends.

Finally, some people prefer cultural and artistic activities. In a normal-sized city, this kind of people has many cultural locations and events to attend. They can visit a museum or an art gallery, go to the zoo or the aquarium, read novels and comics, listen to music, study something interesting or write in their diary. They can learn to play a musical instrument, too, like guitar, piano, flute, violin, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, drums… There are also many, many arts and crafts to learn and practice, like drawing, painting, sculpting or making furniture. These are interesting and relaxing activities most people can practise, even when some of them are a bit expensive (like going to museums, concerts or operas).
As we can see, there are thousands of different activities to choose when young people have some free time to spend. There are the same number of activities to do as the number of teenagers they can practise them. Some of these activities are healthier (like sports), some of them are more ecological (going to the park or going for a walk), and some of them are more instructive (going to museums or doing cultural activities) than others. But all of them are recommendable things, as there are other activities some people do that can affect their own health or health of people who are around them. Activities like breaking benches and bins, burning rubbish containers or stealing things are really insane leisure activities, because they are bad and harmful for the one who does them and for the rest of us. So, in conclusion, we have the possibility of spending our free time doing funny and interesting activities, wherever our likes are.

Young people's leisure activities nowadays / Rubén Viso Vidal
When a teenager finishes his/her work, the first thing he/she will do is to call some friends and go out with them. Then, most of them will go to the cinema to watch a film or go to the shopping centre. These are good activities because when a teenager goes to the cinema or shopping, he/she doesn´t annoy anybody and he/she will enjoy himself/herself. The problem comes up when the teenager spends too much money in that activity, so they will probably receive a punishment from their parents. Young people can also go to the amusement arcades, where they can play video games, billiards and table football.
This is such a good way to enjoy oneself and to meet new people at the same time. However, it can also be a problem if the teenager spends too much time at those activities because it can affect his/her school marks and he/she can waste too much money. A lot of young people will spend their free time going for a walk, doing sport or going out for a drink. They are very good activities for teenagers because those are such really good ways to meet other teenagers and to enjoy themselves at the same time. Going for a walk and doing sports are also good for our health. However, a few teenagers will stay at home. There, they will spend their free time watching TV, playing computer games, surfing the Internet or chatting. These activities, which are very funny, can also affect their health and lead them to a sedentary life and to obesity.
In my opinion, young people can enjoy ourselves and get high marks at school at the same time. I think that our leisure activities are different from our parents’ leisure activities, but neither better nor worse. I am sure that the problems which could come up with our leisure activities can be resolved with a bit of responsibility from us, from politicians and from all citizens, especially noises at nights.

What I do in my leisure time?
First I want to talk about the world of theatre, to which I have just entered. I started relating with people, who have a special interest in it, last summer and now I’m in two groups of theatre. In the first one like a technician of lighting and sound, the name of this group is “A Sombra Teatro”. The group is composed by five actors and a technician. We have just represented “Os Carniceiros” in the MOTA, a sample of theatre in Ourense.
At the second group of theatre, I’m in it like an actor. For me, it is a special group because I started in it five years ago and I have a lot of recollections about it. Its name is “Leria” and sometimes we fuse with another group of old people, with which we do some representations. At the moment, we are preparing a new representation called “XXVI + XV” with which we are going to compete in the “MOTECES”, a sample of school theatre.
Also, I have a Cultural Association, called “Delatoute productions” (it’s not French), with a group of people that love cinema and in general, audiovisual. Here I do a lot of things, as for example, I’m the lighting and sound technician, one of the four operator camera and finally, I have a small role as an actor. I’m very happy with our new project, a television series, called “Carleision”, which mixes comedy and intrigue. This is our first project, which Telemiño (a local TV channel) has already accepted.
Finally, I will talk about the youth house of Ourense. This is the starting point for many groups and associations. The youth house gives grants to these groups and lends them a space for rehearse. It isn’t just a theatre site, because there are many other activities such as: playing chess, doing sports, dancing, renting films and music, surfing Internet, reading newspapers and magazines…
In conclusion, most young people have a wrong stereotype of leisure time, because there are thousands of different things to do instead of those mentioned before. I think people shouldn’t get drunk or take drugs to have a good time. I make an appeal to people who believe that getting drunk or taking drugs will make them happy, to try to do something new, like going to the theatre or see a good film.

What do you think about the leisure activities of young people nowadays?
In general, I think we spend most part of this time being with our friends, you can always see groups of young people going for a walk, practising sport or talking.
Where I live, these are the principal activities young people do, since my town hasn't got a lot to offer. I agree with some people that think it would be nice to have more concerts, to have cinema festivals or some alternative activities. However, in this town there isn't a bad atmosphere at night and you can have a good time at the discos or in parties. It is true that when people start drinking alcohol, smoking or taking drugs it stops being fun and becomes very dangerous and negative.
Other people prefer staying at home instead of going out. Here, there are also good things to do. You can read, watch TV or play video games. It seems to me this last option has become extremely popular with the Play Station, in my opinion it's good to spend some time playing but taking care of doing physical exercise too. Another activity we frequently do is surfing on the internet, social networking sites have caught on a lot of popularity between us. When you are at home you can enjoy being with your family and spending a while with them.
Also, there are good schools of music, so there are a lot of people who play the violin, the guitar or other musical instruments.
In short, there are a lot of different activities so, in my view, we should try many of them and vary a lot, I'm sure that all of them can furnish us something.

Leisure activities / Esteban Martín Álvarez
Sometimes, people have a lot of free time because they have nothing to do. They haven’t got exams or they have already finished their work, so they get bored. When this happens to me, I feel like doing some activities I enjoy, such as cooking, playing the bagpipes or riding my bike. I’m going to tell you about some of my hobbies in my free time and maybe you like these activities too. If this happens, you can do them with me. I wait you!
Cooking
This is one of my favourite hobbies and I practise it on Fridays and at the weekend. I like cooking Italian food, like fresh pasta and pizzas, but I also make other not so good and delicious recipes (once I made a lot of disgusting mushrooms croquettes which looked like a pile of concrete with crunchy rocks). Some Saturdays I make chocolate for breakfast, and it takes me half an hour or more, if I want that it tastes soft and thick. Some Fridays and Saturdays I make fresh pasta with Bolognese sauce.
Making the dough takes me an hour, and I have to use flour, three or four eggs (depending on the people who are going to eat at home), olive oil and salt.
After making the dough I have to flatten, cut it with a special machine and boil it. This takes me half an hour.
With cycling there isn’t this problem because the cycle lane is wide and it’s about 25 km long. I have cycled it many times. I go from O Couto, where I live, to Outariz, and then, from Outariz to Untes. From Untes, I go to Velle, passing Outariz and A Chavasqueira. I finish the cycle track passing A Lonia, and I come back home.
Sometimes while I am cycling along the cycle track, I throw some bangers and fireworks. I have got a lot of them. These are some of them:
Playing music
I also play the bagpipes in the Bagpipes School. I go there on Wednesdays, Fridays and some Mondays or Thursdays. I play the bagpipes at home with my own bagpipes. My bagpipes are green, because my aunt is a craftswoman and she wove a special cover for them. These are my bagpipes.

My free time!
My name’s Iago and I‘m 15.
I’m a teenager who likes making friends and meeting new people.
I love going out with friends, going for a walk and wandering around the city with them. I usually spend my free time listening to music, surfing the Internet, playing videogames and reading.
I love Rock music, especially Rock-Metal and Punk, but I haven’t got favourite genre nor group. I like Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, System of a Down, Linkin Park, Sum 41, Franz Ferdinand, etc…
I’m always drawing, because I like it so much.
I do it everyday, as much as I can and wherever I go, even at school. But actually, I’m not very good at it…so I’m working hard to improve my drawing skills!
I draw a lot of doodles and sketches.
I like to surf the Internet and chat with friends online.
I visit a lot of different websites, but the one that I visit the most is 'DeviantART' (http://www.deviantart.com/), a worldwide web where people upload drafts and drawings and users comment and rate it.
I love this site because you can meet people and see theirs creations.
In this web you can upload a lot of different things, as photos, drawings and paintings, comics, strips, landscapes, flash applications and games, wallpapers, and some other stuff for your computer…
You can also join clubs. There are a lot of clubs, each one is dedicated to a concrete topic. A Spanish/French/German/English … members club, a TV show fan club, a music band fan club…there are thousands of clubs, in where you can meet people with your same likes and dislikes, and talk about the club topic and upload something related to it.
There are contests too, in which users can participate and win some prizes.
You can also subscript to this site (but paying for it) and get some services and customization options that a common user can’t access.
I spend a lot of time there, but my uploads are not very good, so I delete them very frequently to upload new and better ones.
I think Internet is a very useful tool because you can meet new people and learn many things, like a foreign language.
I also love videogames. I usually play Wii and Xbox360. I enjoy playing adventure and action games, and I also like other kind of games, like ‘Guitar Hero’.
I don’t like watching TV so much, because Spanish shows are horrible and boring, but I enjoy watching films. My favourite ones are ‘A Clockwork Orange’ (Stanley Kubrick) and ‘Steamboy’. I enjoy reading Manga (Japanese comics) and watching some Anime (Japanese Animation).
Finally, you can see here an example of my drawings:
Hope you like it!!!
